Why can't Lichess developers do this

An If movement, whereby a user can make a pre-move in a position if the opponent makes a move they believe they'll make.

Basically the user can select their opponent's piece and it'll be highlighted, move it to a certain position then if they move there you also make a pre-move yourself which saves you from blundering since you established that you want to move there if the opponent plays there.

Seems an easy smart to implement
Hello

Because what will happen is that a player clicks his piece to start the normal premove, then considers what you suggested, clicks the opponent's 'if' piece, clicks another place to finish the 'if' move, does not understand why it is not working, the opponent plays, the premove kicks in... and he has just made a blunder, and then comes here to report a bug.

No you are missing my point, the player selects the opponents piece when its not their turn, you can't premove on someone elses pieces mate

I am the one saying oh if the rook moves here, let me put my queen here, thats how it will work, so your example doesn't apply at all.

Hello

I am talking of clicking in the wrong places while mixing up a pre-move and an if-move.

I click my queen to start a pre-move during an opponent's turn,
I change my mind an want to do an if-move on an opponent's pawn,
I have now accidentally pre-moved taking that pawn with my queen,
I click on the square the pawn should go to on my imaginary if-move which,
I wonder why the if-move is not working,
The opponent plays something and my queen immediately takes that pawn resulting in a blunder.

All the best

that's definitely the wrong question. they probably can. them not doing it doesn't mean they cannot. the question you should be asking instead is: why would the lichess developers do this?
I question why there are any “Liechess Developers” at all. Just dig up the 2021 version and then leave it like that for 1000 years. No more features of any kind please. Let’s play chess now
Why can't lichess do this? They can.
But they don't want to. Lichess doesn't need to be identical to certain other chess sites.
Its got its own very nice features and its all free.

horsey horsey up!

Noone is stopping you from 'just playing chess'.

But standing still is a recipe for obsolescence.
Yeah, I just wanted to use that word once in the forum, <bucket list : check! > :-)
