What does # - 1 mean?

I got these symbols: # - 1, # - 2, and # - 3 on the last few moves of my game, and I was wondering what they meant!

Mate in 1, 2, or 3 for black. Would be positive numbers for white.

It means that the winning side can force checkmate in that many moves no matter what the losing side does. If they losing side makes mistakes the checkmate can come even faster though.
