Recently I have been thinking about how to improve the Glicko2 rating system.
I would like to make two changes.
1. There should be separate ratings for white and black especially for unbalanced variants such as Atomic, Antichess and Horde. The rating of a person is the average of their white rating and their black rating. If someone just refuses to play as the disadvantaged side they will just have a provisional rating.
2. I don't think everyone should start from 1500 with RD 350 in all variants. Instead we should use the average rating and RD of recent new players in the particular variant/time control after 10 games as the proper initial rating and RD. This can alleviate the absurd situation where 1500s are often much weaker than 1300-1399 folks.
