Mmr disparity in Chess960

Hi, I play esclusively chess 960, I have an mmr of around 1500. Ive been losing against similarly rated opponents, specially in the late game I find I have almost no chance.

This led me to check my opponents accounts, and it turns out they all have an mmr above 1800 in classical/blitz. Sometimes above 2000.

I now understand why I always lose endgames, as people with this high mmr have usually studied the different endings and know how to draw or win.

What I dont understand however is why they have such a low mmr in 960.

Anyways, the point is, this makes the whole experience very frustrating, and makes one try to overcompensate with weird openings to try to get a big advantage early game, and still thats not a guarantee of victory. This however does not help you improve in playing good balanced (or fun) chess...

I wish there could be a feature to ban all the players with an mmr above a certain level along all categories, as right now I have to check their accounts and abort the game

Thanks for the great work! This remains the best site to play chess imo
Heeeey there :-)
Chess960 is a variant and sadly not a popular one. :<
In general, ratings are much lower in all variants compared to "regular" chess, you can see on the leaderboard (lichess.org/player/top/200/chess960) that less than 2100 is required to enter there.
There wont be a way to prevent stronger chess players from accepting your seeks, and, sorry to say, to abort games is very bad. You learn the most by playing higher rated opposition!
I can understand that you like experiments - but it works only in the opening - for the middle-game and endgame: - standard chess knowledge applies. You wont differ chess960 ending from regular chess ending.
There is no solution for you I guess except of making friends with people who are on same chess level as you and play them more frequently on personal challenge.
Happy 960-chessing and all best :-)
How about doing it the other way round and picking from the lobby yourself. Then you can check stats BEFORE aborting.
They will probably end up missing all the challenges since someone else takes them faster.
Which is also good that way: lobby is not there for cherry-picking the opponnents...
Thanks everyone for the answers!

@Cedur216 this was actually very helpful. I haven't realized of this feature since I usualy play from my phone with the app, which doesn't allow you to see the lobby. Now playing from the browser I can check for an appropriately skilled opponent. My last few games have been really engaging. thanks for the tip!
