Why Is this a draw?

I was just playing a game, and it said the other guy ran out of time. It was his move, and he could checkmate me. We did not offer a draw or get tied via threefold repetition, or run out of time at the same time. Why was it not a win for me, and a draw?
Because you had no pawn or piece left over. Thus you are unable to achieve a win anymore but managed to win on the clock. Draw :)
people should just read the site rules and game rules and bring up meaningful topics
Since you can no longer win since you can't checkmate your opponent, the logical conclusion is that your opponent can't lose. And if he can't lose, that means if he doesn't win, for whatever reason, the result is a draw.
