Voice Chat Feature

Why doesn't Lichess incorporate an automatic voice chat feature in its GUI? I'd like to talk trash to my opponent and likewise get trash talked. This concept that chess is somehow above the competitive nature in humans is highbrow nonsense. You could always mute the feature if you're that sensitive as most people are snowflakes nowadays but each to their own.

i think he is telling that no one can mute themselves thus all can talk and hear all , anyway i think the idea is bad .

How? All it says is "Voice chat is ready" I can't hear or be heard. I don't want someone to have to click something to activate it, I want it to be ready from the start, and only turned off by an affirmative action of the user.

Your opponent has to click it too. Then it will say "Connected". Now you can hear and be heard.

The fact that you have people who have been on Lichess for years and don't even know this feature exists, just proves my point of why it should be on by default.

This would be viewed by 99% of people as a huge invasion of privacy issue. What if you forgot about it being on and someone could eavesdrop on private communications? If Lichess did this it would become a disastrous scandal and Lichess would get in a lot of trouble from all kinds of outside agencies.

That said, I feel an improvement in the current voicechat could be that if one party clicked on it it would indicate so to the other party. Like a phone ringing, and then it's up to them to accept the call or not. As it is there is no indication at all now.

I don't see it being that big of a problem. How long will they eavesdrop? 60 Seconds in a bullet game? 3 minutes in a blitz? In its current form, it's far too inconspicuous of a feature in a small icon. It needs to be a larger front and center icon located near the resign/takeback/draw buttons and given two shapes. A microphone and a speaker which would activate them and turn colors from red for off and green for on. That simple.
