Seems strange to me that it would get to 50 or 70 % and then suddenly stop. Once it's that high the chances of the remaining people getting it are better than ever right? Unless you live on an island seems inevitable at that point you're going to be exposed. So why does it stop there?

This is the exact opposite of the situation because in herd immunity what you have is someone being safe because so FEW people have it. In this case we have so MANY, in fact the majority, of people having it.

If 50% or 70% are infected simultaneously, then yeah, the other people who don't have it are probably going to get it. I don't think that's what they mean when they say 50% or 70% will be infected.
