There has been a lot of discussion about these warning messages.
I definitely agree with this feature , I think it works!I still have two questions...
1) "Abandoning too many games will result..." How many games?
2) "Temporary ban"... For how long? A few hours? A few days?
What about the situation where someone starts a game, and immediately starts adding time to the opponent's clock? Or, near the end of a game, starts adding time to an opponent's clock?
I haven't been flagged or warned, and I don't understand why people do this, other than a time manipulation factor. Are exceptions like this handled?
I use adding time to allow people to play their best chess if it's an interesting position, there is no reason for that to be moderated.
1) So people will know exactly how much bad behavior they can get away with before they have to stop for a while and wait for the counter to reset?
2) I think the initial ban is 10 minutes, and repeated bans will escalate up to a full day.
All these stories and warnings etc. do transform this server more an more in a kind of Kindergarden !
Why we must explain it if we need more time for our moves ?
Dont matter its a longer game or a 3 minutes game, there are a lot of reasons to need more time (or less).
In my case I needed a bit longer cause I choosed a wrong square and server dont allowed it.
But also other things are possible, like: wife comes to talk, a phonecall, the doorbell, my kids etc. etc.
At least we play games for fun or entertainment and no stupid server should tell us we play to slow !
We dont paly for money, we dont play for Olympic medals - so why this big casino ?
For sure there are some bad boys who want cheat or tease others, but I dont think that a blitz-player want play it slow !
And last but not least there are more worse things here;
things what are definitely against official chessrules...
I haven't played for a little while and now it's a pleaseant surprise to see people get banned for not finishing or resigning theire games.
But players let the clock run down anyway. Maybe they should get banned for longer?
Guys all of a sudden, my google chrome notifications stopped working, now I'm warned I'd be banned because of abandoning games I didnt even start because of notifications not working :( Not fair :)!! boo hoo
I have the same situation. How can I enable notifications???
Forhavu posted the solution to the Chrome notification problem on the Lichess Discord:
Go to chrome://flags/#enable-offline-auto-reload-visible-only
Change this setting to disabled
I assume either:
a) the root cause is user error
b) the root cause is a Chrome bug?
I can't figure out how to search the Chrome Release Notes to prove the latter, and the former seems the simpler explanation anyway:
