Emote spamming, or “chain reactions”

@Toadofsky: precisely. Rules are agreed upon in advance. When you use a language, you accept its rules. Therefore, you HAVE TO accept logic, which is foundational to any system aimed at conveying meaning.

So, as per your own admission, you’ll have to accept the fact that you can’t use a symbol and its negation at the same time ‘cause that nonsense.

Finally, you made it! :)
#41 Language is descriptive, as evidenced in your own statement which doesn't follow English grammar rules (at least not any that I can find):
"Therefore, you HAVE TO..."

If you don't take my word for it, there's always Tom Scott:

@Toadofsky: not sure I get your point. English is not my mother tongue, so it’s possible I make mistakes. Would you help me understand where my grammar is incorrect?
And then there's always the argument that lichess is just a (free) service which no one is forced to use, as plenty alternatives are available. This is not really comparable to living under a government which censors your free speech, but more like when you visit someone at their house, complain about the furniture being dirty and insist that you should be able to say and do whatever you feel is right while in their house.

As I highlighted in an earlier post, if the reactions bother you you can disable them altogether so you won't have to look at all the conflicting emotions again :)
@Toadofsky: am I not free to use the symbols at my disposal in the way I please? I thought you would be pretty much ok with it. ;)

That said, and jokes aside, I apologize for the all caps and I am grateful you pointed out how my stylistic choice could be perceived as rude and inappropriate in this context.
#46 It's fine, I'm just pointing out how your argument supports my argument: people don't follow rules when communicating with each other.

Heck, sometimes chess players don't follow rules either, and lose the game for it.
