Yeah LM does stand for Lichess Master. I do believe that members who contribute and are very active in the community are recognized for their actions and are then rewarded the role.

Why is everyone after the LM title... As far as I've come across with, not only you need to be of good quality as a member but also you need to be of high rating. Do we have LMs below 2000 rating?
