The backyard professor was the best chess youtuber ever!

It has been years since he last made a video but he was and still is my favourite. He wasn't very good but he had real passion for the game. While everyone else just records moves on their computer and commentates this guy was outside showing us beautiful scenery on a real chess board. It's a shame more youtubers don't get creative with their video production. I hope one day he returns to chess or someone else picks up the slack and makes fun chess videos.

He was!! I wish he would come back!! DX He was the first ChessTuber I ever watched and he taught me so much about rooks on open files. Maybe not the best player ever, but he was such a great guy. :[

I made a sticky-note chess set just like his and I'm certainly thinking about making chess videos like his. I'll dedicate the videos to him.
I agree. I really enjoyed his videos. I would also say it was the passion that got me. He didn't check his moves with a computer or database so it was like a mediocre player waxing on about how awesome his position was (even if it wasn't) , like an insane person ... but somehow his presentation style made that irrelevant :-)
The music he uses as well is awesome.

"Happy checkmating...And I will see you in the next video"
He was quite a personality, definitely! I didn't come across his videos until about a year ago, so it seems I missed out.

Personally, I really like listening to Mato Jelic. His videos are typically short enough to keep my attention, and he occasionally surprises you with some unexpected humor. And I always like pausing the video and find "the killa move". :D

Mato sounds like the count from Sesame Street when he says checkmate. I love it every time. Ditto on the backyard chess prof
