How to improve playing fast?

Is there any way to improve spotting immediate things like hanging pieces, checkmate in one etc 100% of the time in a second or two?

To my great frustration, I am embarrassingly bad at playing quickly. My problem is that I so often miss obvious moves unless I am given some 1-2 minutes for each move. This also affects calculation, since quite often in critical variations there can be some rather obvious moves that I had not considered.

So tired of losing games like this:

The final move in the game, struck me like lightning from a clear sky. Like the move was illegal or "did not exist" until it was on the board.

This is not an extreme example, or limited to online games. A majority of my losses in FIDE rated OTB games (both classical and rapid) have been like that. A blatantly obvious move for my opponent just did not occur to me fast enough. Of my losses in FIDE rated rapid games, pretty much 100% have been to this type of blindness.
play slow games?

idk, i only played 20 something casual games
sometimes 2 pawns up is winning, sometimes its losing
You lack danger awareness. You had to give up your rook for the knight. Always ask yourself: if I play move Nc2, what will my opponent play?
I have the same problem. Usually I allow my opponents some tactics that weren´t even threatened. I think the only possibility is to learn from bitter experience
@Celestial_love, i have the same problem in 90min+30s OTB games. I can stare and calculate a position for a minute or two and first then an obvious threat appears -- and it scares me every time how close it was that I did not spot it. And once I am in time trouble, I am often lost, despite a 30 second increment.

@tpr, I do calculate the critical lines I see. In the game above, I expected Nxc2 (or Ne6), and calculated them accordingly. The move Rb3 did not "exist" in my mind. Usually I calculate several lines, maybe 5-6 moves ahead, depending on time control. If I had seen the threat, I would of course given a rook for the knight and pawn (it is still winning for white).

Obviously, if I scan through all legal moves for my opponent I will spot these things. But it is too slow of a technique to be useful (especially when calculating variations).

Maybe my question can or should be paraphrased: how can I train my subconscious to be faster/better in spotting/alerting me of threats?
With my low level I feel embarrassed to explain how I rapidely "train my brain" at playing bullet, but this is how I did.

I played many many games against stockfish at level 1, then 2 ...

obviously it didnt increment my chess knowledge, but it improved quite a lot my eyes..
"Is there any way to improve spotting immediate things like hanging pieces, checkmate in one etc.?"

I asked myself the exact same question, then I started brainstorming. What I came up with is this:

After each move tell me how many checks can be delivered.

Seems simple, but currently impossible for me todo in my own games. What I noticed is that I need verification or I loose interest

And so, since I'm a programmer, I built a program to help me with that.

Does this approach work? I don't know, but I'll find out soon
@TheTap : When i was visiting a training seminar one topic was what is the difference between the Masters and the average player. And they announced it is the pattern reconnection. If a GM once learned a pattern he will not forget it anymore :) For me that was an important knowledge and i trained all tactical standard motives and all the beautiful Mates which have very funny names like the Anastasia mate or the dragonfly mate. All these types of standard mates ( there are not so many, maybe 30) appear again and again in games and if you know the pattern and reconnect them at the right time you might save a lot of time in games because you are also getting better in leading a position to certain motives what saves you time at the end of the day and makes your chess better. And of course makes it easier to make real Horror show for you opponent :) hahahah
tactics, tactics, and more tactics, only tactics can save the world
