Knockout format

Guys, the knockout format was choosen for the 84º brazilian championship and it was pretty exciting to watch
We could try it here, why not?
How will players in a knockout event arrange times ?
It would be inconvenient and inefficient.
People would not be able to withdraw, latejoin etc.
Agree with #5. Lichess' Arena system guarantees that you can maximise your time on the site, actually playing chess.

If I spend one hour playing in a tournament, I'm thankful that I don't have to sit around waiting around for my next game to start.
You are not forced to participate actually, if you haven't much time to spend.

I oftenly play bullet and blitz tournaments, and I use play something about 7 games, a 200 players knockout tournament would have 9 rounds, not so distant right? And I'm considering you're going to be one of the finalists.

In the case of rapid, classical and correspondence, it could happen on the weekends, another possibility would be 1 or 2 rounds/day; one more possibility would be the first part in the swiss mode and after 1 hour, the top 8, top 16, top 32 or more would play the knockout.

Seems pretty exciting, lichess should try it, it's exciting to play, to root for, and it creates stories and history to talk about for ever
i agree completely, its exciting to root for your favorite player, it could spice up livestreaming
#5 A withdraw wouldn't be a problem, the person just leaves, rating points won't be losing if he leave before a game as the current tournaments work.. In the case of both players out, it's pretty common to have a bye during the tournament, we just see another one.

Late joiners don't use to dispute the leadership, it's not impossible but also not expected in general. If you just wanna play and have some fun, search for something different of a knockout tournament, because you can be eliminated pretty fast, otherwise, be punctual, play well and win the tournament.. the personal goals may not match but there are another options in our chess site.

I honestly don't find these two arguments good enough to discard the idea
