Why playing without increment ?

What kind of surveys are there about lichess time controls? Am I supposed to make a survey of my own?
If developers thought that there was demand for increment based tourneys then they would also create them. Since there are none, I think it's pretty clear that most people in fact prefer no increment
you chose the time control :)
3 0 is much more enjoyable than say 3+2
the quality does not differ much in 5 0 than 5+3
you chose to play without increment so you should not be complaining
i would chose to play variants with 1 0 anyday.. the lack of tournaments with them is the reason i dont play variant tournaments
@cimol Valid argument about increments. There are two very different play styles to play by 1 with increment, and one without. Without increment, flagging is much more of a tool.

I'll give you an example. Suppose we are playing a game of chess you, and I. It's a 5/0 game vs 5/2 game.

The same position is in the board in both games. I hardly used any of my time I got like 4 minutes left.

You used much of your time, and have like 30 seconds left.

It's a fairly equal position.

We reach a position where I can make a dubious sacrifice but one you must calculate on to avoid some serious tactical problems. My objective is to flag you with this sacrifice.

5 moves later, and you are down to 5 seconds out of the woods, and I'm down a piece, but you have 5 seconds on the clock, but I still got over 4 minutes.

Welp, I guess I probably won't be able to flag you now you can make dummy moves with that increment... if we play increment, and you will not run out of time and eventually win... or your clock runs out since you are a slowpoke I win.

Been on both sides of situations like this. It's just a different strategy that works depending on if there is an incriment or not.
Well, the forums indicate otherwise. I've seen hundreds of people vocally stating and asking for increment tournaments.
Hundreds of people asking for increment, other 100 thousand enjoying lichess as it is.
Seems about right
"Hundreds of people asking for increment, other 100 thousand enjoying lichess as it is.
Seems about right"

That's not a proper comparison. A proper comparison would entail that you know:

How many people would enjoy increment time controls if they were already added by default and then you would compare the two modes.

Ask yourself this question if you care about having a discussion (you don't seem to care, which is why this will be my last post here if you say you are not):

What if, say 10 years ago, ICC & other sites replaced their blitz & rapid pools, without increment entirely
with the same time controls with 1 second increment?

Let's assume increment time controls became the standard way of playing online. Would you be in favor of non-increment play still or would be in favor of increment play if you got used to it?

My answer would be the same: I'd still be in favor of increment play.

I suspect that the attitude I'm seeing towards non-increment is mostly due to people liking the status quo and the thrill of timing out people.

It's not like I'm asking for lichess to remove non-increment time controls at any point here. All I'm asking for is for them to add increment time controls.
There are Weekly Classical Inc Arenas lichess.org/tournament/NfCQalBM they are quite popular btw. Unfortunately, Arena format is not very suitable for Inc games. It's not profitable for players to play a long game until logical ending in Arena, better have sudden death and move to the next game to get more points. And it often turns into endless mutual berserks in the top anyway. This is probably one of the reasons there are very few such tournaments - if you want to play 3+2, you can get an opponent in the "Quick start" fast (note that for chess variants this is not so, and thus their Shields are hosted in 3+2), but tournament results are less sensical. I still don't quite understand what's the problem with adding hourly/daily blitz inc Arena.
There were one 3+2 blitz arena and one 3+2 thematic tournament daily last time I checked.
