just what are the times for blitz and rapid ?

when i click on them on my profile it says
blitz games are 3-8 minutes and
rapid games are 8-25 minutes

that is all well and good if it is SD
but when you add increments those numbers are WRONG

isnt the standard is to figure a 60 move game
both fide and uscf

so a 1.5+7 game labelled blitz is really a 3+14=17 minute game
i note this as i just played a game at that time control

but i see the same problems with other combinations of min + increment_seconds

just adding the 1.5 and the 7 as some places do gives 8.5 which is more than the alleged blitz game time constraints

so what is the formula to tell if m+delay in seconds is blitz or rapid?

5+3 is blitz and 5+5 is rapid

those two are close enough they belong in the same category

20+1 is also rapid but is a totally different game than 5+5
and fide would say it would last 42 minutes which is a lot more than the 25 noted by LI

It's based on 40 moves.
Starting time + increment * 40

but that still leaves the problem of very different games being lumped under the same category for ratings which makes ratings even more meaningless

and with 40 moves
1.5 + 7 is a 12.33333 minute game not 3-8 minutes
