stockfish 12 is supposed to be 130 points above stockfish 11, can lichess add it.
They are working on it.
Stockfish 12 relies on instructions which are slow in a browser. Upgrading could lose Elo.
A better method would be to make lichess be able to act like a front end for an engine. Send UCI commands over a websocket or tcp.
@jhuang And what server should handle all those requests?
Your own machine on the same machine or a local network. Exposing Stockfish directly to the internet is a bad idea.
I’m still seeing Stockfish 10 in the analysis engine. Am I doing something wrong? Is there an ETA when Lichess will implement Stockfish 12?
#6 Who would make it possible to securely download a secure version of Stockfish, which could not be exploited?

I can take a look but presumably people already trust lichess to not try to exploit Stockfish. Crashing / exploiting Stockfish on your own machine doesn't seem like a big deal to me. Someone mentioned droidfish android app supports connecting to an engine over TCP.
I'm not sure how upgrading Stockfish to 12 will affect average players. Yes, 130 points is good, but if you are using it to analyzing your games it will not show something drastically new. I doubt someone wants to play against the strongest Stockfish anyway.
And also it's not optimized for browsers (just a matter of time).
