Arena tournaments: playing it safe is out-of-date

Actually I was taught to play it (chess) safe. No risky gambits, taking my time in the endgame, securing the win.

Seems not the right approach in arena tournaments. Berserking is an issue, trying to win fast is desirable? How is your approach?

Actually I am thinking to play 1.e4 in such tournaments and using some old tricks, not a positional approach.

What do you think?
You get rewarded for streaks too. So, it is possible to play slow and sensibly and still win.
Playing multiple times in large tournaments against the same opponent, I see. Last round is also an issue: forcing matters or offering draw even in a won position to gain at least a draw?

Everything very strange from a „classical“ point of view. Probably simply not my mug of beer.

I agree that berserking is kind of stupid. Now that I think about it berserking really means that you get more points for playing fast (no shit!). But in chess the goal ultimately is to win, not to win particulary fast. And this for example classical arenas 10+0 arenas if you want to finish on top wich kind of defeats the purpose of the arena.
I mean you are dependent on your opponents. If they blunder a piece in the opening and spend their whole because they cannot bring themselves to resign.

I wasn’t aware of this whole bunch of new tournament techniques previously. On the other hand, I understand the request for Swiss system which crops up regularly. Now I know.
Our club played a small tournament yesterday. Last round my opponent could have prevented mate by simply not moving until the tournament has finished. No material himself. It that case, zero points for that game for the standings? I played quickly for mate - but I had to rely on cooperation. A double strike (4 P.) btw.

Also strange: I played against 3 opponents 2x - against one guy no game at all.
