In #1 you are in bare feet.. and in #2 you are collecting the rubbish with bare hands. Both of these things tend to down-play the potential hazards involved.
#3 is a great message...even though the pollution starts far from the river,it all eventually ends up there.Maybe you could develop that theme; show the various routes different kinds of pollution take to the waterways,and emphasize the need to clean up at the source rather than at the destination.

@obladie Thanks for letting me know! I go to that river quit often (the clackamas river) and I try to clean the trash out of it, but I can see how that can be dangerous without the proper equipment. I will try to remember to pick up some river shoes soon.
