What is the size of your ...

Actually, bigger sizes have a downside to them too. They take more energy, meaning that, for example, you couldn't hold a bigger one up in the air as long as you could a smaller one. You wouldn't want to play longer games, with more moves, on a bigger board with heavier pieces, right?
If you're playing with a board too big, it might be hard to find the right position. (Buy a crane or lift.)

If you're playing with a board too small, tweezers make a mess of the game. (Buy a magnifying glass or microscope before you accidentally tip your king.)

In either instance (too big, or too small), perspective is lost and the game is difficult to play.

Optimal OTB play happens when the squares are between 1.25 and 1.75 inches squared, such that the circular radius between a corner and the center of the board is somewhere between 7 and 10 inches.

For the record, I do not endorse using other chess boards as a measuring stick about which size is best. Some boards have small, smooth rounded corners; others have bigger, sharper corners; and laying one on top of the other without comparing how big the trim is belies the utility. You should play with what you're comfortable with. Playing with boards too big or small are subject to various injuries.
Sorry, I was raised Amurican. (And, one of the unfortunate side effects is that I'm lazy, too.)

On the other hand, I've never heard of the "metrical system." I think you mean "metric" (it's a standard, I can convert to "metric," but, again, I'm too lazy to care).

Remember: You can convert, too (hint: instead of complain).
@MrCharles don't want to be rude, but inches are for monkeys, all science and civilized world already using metrics.
Size can be very important, I can't connect to squares even when it's on whole browser.
Actually there's no a standard size for boards at federations but in most of the cases, professional players use a 40x40 cm board and this measure is used as a reference.
Also considerate the size of the pieces, Staunton is around 9.52 cm if I'm not wrong and each square is 5.5 cm^2.
Now if you want to get another board, I suggest you to find one between 40x40 and 50x50 cm.
@lovlas Hmmm, well, I can barely grab my pieces with the current size.. they are too small man.. I wish mine were bigger.

@PrometheusAbsox How do you know Ding's dong size, I mean, I mean, his board size?? Have you seen him use his actually chess board live? I am interested in his board size, please give me some proof or pictures. I may be able to learn a thing or two.
