Chess Tactics Server http://chess.emrald.net

Hi All,

Is anyone familiar with this site. I used to love it years ago and now would like to comeback using it though it seems offline all the time. Anybody knows what is happening.
I believe it was the best site for tactics, much better than Chess tempo, chess 24 and even lichess ( I am really sorry that's what I feel), not to mention free of charge.
Anyone knows whats up ?
I am in a chess club and all the players (graduates) practice in chesstempo.
Yeah I know, Chestempo is stil a apid site, Chess Tactics server was free and in my humble opinion much better

Why was Emrald tactics server so much better than anything else in your opinion ?
Well I could write many things regarding CTS options, which in the end could be refuted that chesstempo has as well, although there is one very big difference CTS was ( hhopefully will be again avalible) TOTALLY FREE.
I don't know, chesstempo is as free as it can be, the premium perks are of no big importance if your primary goal is to train tactics.
The big difference is that on CTS you can set what level tactics you want to train for free. To do that at chesstempo, you need a premium account. Setting the level of tactics you train is essential to the way I train (and the way most teachers recommend).

The problem I always had with CTS is that it was horrifically ugly. To remedy that, I made a stylish plugin to make the pieces more normal looking. The interface still needs a lot of work, but fixing those awful pieces was a big first step for me.

edit to add: I know you can set easy, medium, and hard on chesstempo, but this is not what I'm talking about. Those are always relative to your tactics rating. On CTS, you set them by absolute rating level (ie 1100 rated problems, 1400 rated problems, etc.). It's a huge difference.
More people use Chess Tempo then cts so cts being off line is not so bad.
