Not sure I'd call that a "trick" really (since you'd better have that finale mind when you enter all this). And why didn't White ever get around to taking that queen? I don't know either.

A "trick" is basically a synonym for a cheapo. You had better have that continuation in mind before you started, or your whole idea doesn't work.
