General chat .

There is really no substituting going to the movie theater for me personally. I've been thinking about that nearly every day. Going to movies a few times a month is one of my favorite things. Okay, I'll stop complaining. I am kind of enjoying 30 minute drives in my area. I also try to be content with going to browse at the bookstore or reading my novels.
The last time wife and I went to the movies was when we took our young kids to see E.T. Most people I tell that to don'y believe it,but it's true.
Best Chinese I ever had was in Chinatown one of those hole-in-the-wall places with a bunch of Chinese ppl eating there..nobody spoke English and the menu was in Chinese..I managed to get across that whatever the cook (a 175 yr old little Chinese lady) thought would do us.The fresh veges were straight from the markets across the street, and the kitchen-hand was a giant Chinese teenager lad who was in obvious terror of the 175 yr old cook.In less than 5 minutes we had half a dozen different dishes on the table. All made from scratch right there in front of us(open kitchen area).
She could have even been older..the light was not all that good.
Which didn't matter because I can't read Chinese anyway.
When it was time to pay, that's when the real fun began.
I offered what was a generous amount, what you would expect to pay in a good class restaurant.
It was refused, and they took only half of my offer.I tried to give the fair amount, but nothing I could do would convince them
So I pretended I had left something at the table, and put the balance under a plate.
Honour on both sides was satisfied.
I did not try to hide what I was doing.
And they pretended not to notice.
Then we proceeded to the theatre to see some musical or other
The End.
just remembered...West Side Story.

This is where we stayed for two nights. 1000 klm or so west of Sydney. Dug into the side of a hill. White Cliffs gets temperature extremes from -10C to +50C, but the temperature in the motel is a constant about 20C.
Wow, that's the first time I ever heard of any lodgings like that -- cool! Did you enjoy your stay? Did you feel claustrophobic at all? I'd love to visit there some day -- also travel to Australia in general. I had an uncle who lived in Sydney, but he passed away a few years ago. Still have cousins there, though I've never met them. The furthest I've ever traveled (I live in the U.S.) was when we visited Scotland two years ago.

Good question..no..there is no closed-in sensation at all. And it's certainly the quietest motel I ever stayed in!! :)

We've had cloud the last few days, but still plenty of time down here. The predicted best southern hemisphere view will be July 23.(which incidentally is my birthday).I'm determined to see it..can't be bothered hanging around for another 6800 years.
