wondering why i'm unable to join the under 2000 blitz arena right now. i have enough rated games (>= 20), and i'm definitely under 2000 (1534 provisional, but why i'm provisional with more than 20 games, i don't know)...

Probably because your rating is provisional, so it doesn't accept your >20 games and <2000 rating.
Your rating is provisional even with 21 games because you haven't played rated blitz games for many months. Playing some more non-tournament blitz games should solve the problem.
seems a little strange. i figured once i hit the base limits, i was good. didn't realise i had to play on some schedule...

Huh, it seems at least in terms of rating, you'd played at least 20 games and never held a blitz rating at or over 2000. I don't understand why you'd be ineligible for an under-2000 event.
@travelgirl it's due to the fact, that if you stop playing chess on here, you could still be improving at chess while your rating doesn't get updated
i can see where this might be problematic, but even so, one would think it is a rare occurrence.
does anyone know the algorithm involved? how many games per month/year do i have to play to keep from being provisional?
