That's just weird

So, lately I have noticed a very weird kind of behavior among some of the users here.
Apparently, there are some people who only play their rated games with white, which is questionable at best. But another, even more absurd, behavior I noticed was among those player, namely: Blocking every single player that beats you.

I first noticed this after I played a game against someone, and wanted to invite him to a rematch after beating him. I noticed I was blocked immediately. After checking with about 15 players from the discord, they had the exact same thing happen to them with that player.

Eversince, I have started paying a little bit of attention to what kind of weird 'cheats' people are using to manipulate their rating on this site (or,subsequently, how they deal with their losses). I am just super curious as to why someone would get into such a desperate mindset that it would cause them to block everyone that ever beats them. Or why you would refuse to play games with black(cheating in my opinion).

I mean, possibly you would get a slightly higher rating artificially - but it does nothing for your chess, and contributes to an unfair playing field right?
"it does nothing for your chess" - Exactly.

I guess John Lenon was right: “One thing you can't hide - is when you're crippled inside.”

I don't think it's unfair for anyone but themselves, their rating still corresponds to the strength you'll be playing against and they can block as many people as it's humanly doable, it will still corresponds to a drop of water in a big pool.
Yep... Those idiot exist on the server. Playing everything with white is just as bad rating manipulation as traditional cheating/sandbagging. As for the people who block you for beating them: it has happened about 15 times that I know of, it is quite pathetic. You can only hope that at some point they will somehow force these people to play fair..
I mean I can understand blocking certain players that are abusive in their language for example. But rated games should reflect, at least in part, actual rated/normal games. I can basically play every game with white to get to 2100 - but that would mean that the moment I start playing fair again, I'm going to lose 6 games in a row because I get dicked by someone who's actually good at chess, and subsequently mess up both ratings at least a little bit.

As for the blocking: I feel sorry for them, that they feel the need to hide their losses like that, or feel so hurt by a loss that they try to mitigate that by blocking the responsible player.

I believe posting player names is not allowed? If it is, I would love to @ them and see if they can explain what motivates that type of conduct
Oh really?!
I thought that rated/casual are different pairing pools; and black/white are assigned in a switch and one cant try to get one special color in rated ones... Btw. there are people - like me - who prefer playing as black. :)

No, its a public shaming, please dont post here their names. Maybe you will get lucky and someone of them has the stamina to explain why they do it under your topic.

I am always waiting for a rematch offer as a winner of the game because I think its kinda weird to offer rematch myself - to me its like saying "Hey! I want to beat you again!" This is the reason why I always accept rematches in bullet/blitz after I have won - I feel like I must give a chance to erase the loss to my opponent...

This is why I guess, I have never experienced that -agreed- very strange behaviour.
But if it really exists, I hope one day I can be promoted to "the most blocked person" on this site, which would only mean that I rule, I do own them all. :-)
@fanoffans The system will try to balance white and black games for everyone. Players who abort games with black will get more and more pairings with black, plus a temporary ban for aborting too many games.

The number of players you can have on your block list is limited to 500, so whatever these guys want, it will not work.

@beatingidiots Public shaming *is* forbidden here.
@Funkmaus Haha yea makes sense, I too aspire to become good enough to be blocked by. It just took me by suprise, since I couldn't fathom having done something to upset them with my conduct. I also thought the rated games shouldn't have this option to just refuse to play black, but perhaps I don't fully understand the workings of a chessite yet.

@sheckley666 Yes but they don't go for one of the 'quick pairing' options. They make a custom game, rated, and play white. So they 'slip through' the detection system I guess.

Other than believing it's somewhat childish and cheatish, I don't have a huge issue with it. I was just caught off-guard I suppose.
I have also encountered this a number of times.

As for the people refusing to play black - I've made a post about this a while back. I strongly believe they should either be punished in rating, or the option should be removed/limited to rated games. That type of cheating isn't allowed anywhere except for this site, I hope they will make that change soon.
