Yellowstone Supervolcano: What do you think?

I've seen many are focusing on Yellowstone Supervolcano's disaster, even YouTubers. Basically, Yellowstone is a supervolcano which has erupted at least 2 times in the past. Last was approx. ~ 140000 years ago. And many tell that we should be able to silence it with the technologies in the future (it's gonna erupt after ~7000 years). And many say that it will destroy almost whole of North America, not by lava, but mainly by the rockfalls, carbon monoxide, and the smoke. But in contrast, such volcanos give Earth it's shape, help us study origins of planets, and even give fertile soil.

What do you think, should we silence it?
Uhh... yeah probably if we could. But I don't think we can yet, and there's no telling when it might erupt as the understanding of the processes is incomplete.
True. I've been to yellowstone and wyoming when I was a kid, and I saw a tornado there - but for some reason that memory feels simulated or implanted - like it never actually happened though the memories are clear.
From what I've read it's not that likely to happen.A 1 in 700,000 chance on a yearly basis.
However if in the future we can mitigate the chance of it occuring we certainly should though I would want to be absolutely certain of the means involved. It would be just our luck to trigger it by trying to prevent it .

Yes: www.usgs.gov/faqs/yellowstone-overdue-eruption-when-will-yellowstone-erupt.
Given that average life expectancy is only ~80, supervolcano eruptions shouldn't figure high in an average person's list of worries. Anyway, you can just avoid going there.

No, North America as a whole will not be destroyed by rockfalls or Carbon monoxide. The biggest influence not only on North America but the whole world will be the amount of ashes in the atmosphere which will block the sunlight and probably causes a sharp temperature drop.

When Mt. Tambora exploded in 1815 it did this with a volcanic explosivity index (VEI) of 7 and released about 160 cubic kilometers of material. This is a cube with roughly 5.5 km edge length. The temperature drop caused by this eruption lead to 1816 to be called the year without summer.

An eruption from Yellowstone on full force will be VEI 8 and will release 10- to 20-fold of the Mt. Tambora material. So these are the dimensions we are talking about.

I doubt that even in a few thousand years we can develop technology with which an eruption of that magnitude could be prevented.
