Who taught you how to play chess?

Let me start this topic.

I learned how to play chess watching my friends playing the game in the late 1950s or in the early 1960s. I just stop playing the game because I was in the Philippine movies as character actor, dancing the ballroom dancing, playing basketball and studying.

I just resume playing chess in the late 1990s or in the early 2000s.

I learned how to play chess myself, by reading the paper with the instructions on it.

My cousin, but he didn't know the full rules. After that I joined chess club at school and learned the full rules and began to play.

I don't remember !

My friend and I both learned on our own during the summer between 4th and 5th grade. The next year at school we would play with a little magnetic set during lunch. Fun times!

The son of my nanny taught me some basics, and then I really learned with my dad :-)

My brother taught me how the pieces moved but we didn't play proper.

Mike Kummer of the St Louis Chess Club was really the dude who taught me everything I know.

I was taught by my father when I was a kid. He only taught me the basic moves, and he didn't even know some moves (like en passant).

After many years, I took it back (I am 35 now) and have been learning by reading online and taking classes from chess instructors here on lichess.org.

I guess I am a late learner, what makes my progression a tad difficult, but it's fun, nonetheless.

My dad taught me the rules/moves when I was 6, didn't like it at first so I didnt do anything with it. Then at around 10 or 11, chess at school got me started again, from there on out I started playing a lot exclusively online for a year (on ICC), started playing against seniors on a chessclub when I was 12.

Met @tricksonlynl on ICC back then, played my first tournament together with him and afterwards I started getting training/improving ;)
