What do VS Stonewall?

What are you supposed to do? What do you personally like if opponent starts as white for example: 1d4, 2e3, 3 f4 etc.?

I almost always have kingside problems even thou I try to put my knight on e4 as I’m told to do by some books.

My recomendation is the stonewall structure chapter of the chess pawn structures book of Mauricio Flores.
Well, 3 easy ways to counter , the strategy is to take out his best LSB vs ur LSB.

1. d4 d5 2. d3 Bf5 ( If you are 1... d5 player) or

1. d4 Nf6 2. d3 d5 3. Bd3 Bg4 and then later Bg6 ( If you are 1...Nf6 player).

1. d4 Nf6 2. e3 e6 3. Bd3 ( For Nimzo players, do b6 and Ba6 ).

Winning against stonewall from black is quite hard though. As chess is already very drawish and white player choose such drawish lines, black has little choice but take draw.

There are still people who keep using stonewall to get draw against 3500 + engines.
As a long time player of the Stonewall defense, I have no problem with a knight occupying my hole. The systems that I have difficulties dealing with (reoriented to a white POV) is a break on my strong point by f6 and e5 and the controlling of f8 by b3 and Ba3. There is also the plan to break on b4 but this often is slower than white's king side attack.

If the Stonewall was easy to control, Botvinnik wouldn't have had success with it.
F.e.:
1.f4 d5
2.Nf3 g6
3.d4 Bg7
4.e3 c5
5.c3 Nh6
6. Bd3 Bf5
....with the idea of trading the LSB and pulling white's tooth. Very easy plan and with the LSB missing the square e4 looks good for a knight on some day.
