Should it matter? Nothing is stopping them, lichess is completely free.

I don't see it as a problem. Females are free to play or not to play chess.

Girls learn to talk much sooner than boys. So they may need to learn chess sooner than boys too.
Girls mature faster than boys. So, maybe chess needs to be introduced much earlier to girls, than boys.
The chess tempo of when to start learning it is different for every one.

Maybe it's as simple as giving the white pieces always to the girls and the boys would always get the black pieces.
When they join a tournament, they must alternate colors.

Find the cause of the imbalance, then find a way to regain equality.

This guy is trolling just by stating his honest opinions haha. There is an imbalance because less females want to play chess. They are as free to do so as men. Therefore equality of opportunity exists. No one is discouraging them at all. Can you think of one person who has ever said "females shouldn't play chess"? If females lack the motivation to play chess, it is not a question of "regaining equality".

And why focus on sex only ? A human being has many other characteristics, one could just write as well:

- I would like that 50% of players on Lichess be black
- I would like that 50% of players on Lichess be catholic
- I would like that 50% of players on Lichess be Italian
- I would like that 50% of players on Lichess be left-handed

etc etc etc
