Warning, XXXXX. Aborting too many games will result in a temporary ban

Even in ZEN mode, some players abort the game, thus this automatical message appears in chat after that.

Why such cryptic message?

How much "too many" is exactly? A number is much more informative that that.
How long is that temporary ban exactly? The same as upper.

IMO, better "punshment" in rated games is to remove 10 or more points.
And I understand such "punishment" have a sense in rated games, but not in casual.
If you remove points then you're making the player appear weaker than they actually are, impacting the matching system. It legitimises sandbagging - you could repeatedly abort games then win in lower rated tournaments.

I believe the wording is vague to allow room to tweak parameters. If you get the messages occasionally then the wording doesn't matter. If it keeps happening then you have a problem to solve and the parameters and wording are irrelevant.
Subject: "Warning, XXXXX. Aborting too many games will result in a temporary ban"

>> "Even in ZEN mode, some players abort the game, thus this automatical message appears in chat after that."

You do not see the "Warning, XXXXX" unless you are the one to commit the offense. In other words, you mention "even in ZEN mode, some players abort the game..." -- You don't see or receive this message unless you are the one who aborted.

If your opponent aborts the game, you might see something like: "Your opponent has been warned."

Point of this is: You are only familiar with the subject message because you are slow to move and have been warned about aborting games. You don't get information about how/why your opponent has been warned. You get messages about your behavior. You might see a message that your opponent has been warned, and you can report the person, except for the fact you've already been informed that your opponent's negative behavior has already been logged and is already running the threshold. (The threshold is not your business.)

>> "Why such cryptic message?"

See your next question, the answer is implicit. (If you play chess, then you should be able to understand; to think about the position and understand how you would respond: Implicit.)

>> "How much "too many" is exactly? A number is much more informative that that. How long is that temporary ban exactly?"

So that you cannot "game" the system in place, the specifics are not articulated. What the administrators are saying to you is: "Do not start a game unless you are ready to play! If you are not ready or unwilling to play, instead of docking you points, and people complaining about this, you will be timed-out. We do not explain the time-out so that you cannot continue gaming the system or manipulating the ratings system or negatively impacting other users. If you perform negative behaviors like this too much, too often, you will be throttled or rate-limited and be subject to penalties." -- Parts of the penalty system are automated; too many repeat offenses over a longer period of time may result in a permanent play/ban and/or in-depth review.

It's really very simple.

Walk a mile in the administrators' shoes. If you were managing/maintaining this website, and you ran across users trying various tactics to influence the outcome of games, what decisions might you make? You might make decisions based upon data and information which provides a healthy balance for healthy game-play for the majority of players.

If you walk a mile in the admin's shoes, you might also come to realize that complaints like this should be ignored and the thread closed. Otherwise, the whole premise of even attempting to explain the logic, reason and/or rationale behind such basic decisions becomes an argument. And then another user comes along and has the same complaint, same lack of perspective, same argument all over again. Wouldn't you get bored and tired of having to address the same issue/complaint over and over again? Especially as it pertains to fair-play policies; encouraging good quality players and game play, and discouraging poor attitudes and/or poor behavior???

/Close thread? (Please!)
@SJCVChess

That long post you wrote is absoulutely incorrect, you had have no experience in that.
And you are obviously not one of develeopers to whom was intented this post, which would know the answer of upper questions.

I'm playing in ZEN mode for several reasons:

- Preventing opponent to abort since my current rating (I'm plaing with 1700+ opponents currently). I had rating 1100 month ago, go figure what happens when I was in normal mode.
- Preventing to see trash talk in chat and insults without single reasons which are quite usual here (I usually report it, but nothing happens)

After the game is finished or aborted you can see what is in chat window. If opponent aborted, that will be wrote as well in the chat window and exact content of it. Automatic messages by system are visible to both players, not only to whom was mentioned.

Since you doesn't know the facts, you jump into wrong conclusions and right away starts with personal insults and insinuations. You know nothing better except to be agressive with no reason, that is your personality. Do not involve yourself in matters you do not know or which are far beyound your powers. Hope you have learned something. ;)
@n321 #4 -- "Since I doesn't know the facts..." ... "I jump in wrong conclusions and right away starts with personal observations."

Yes, those are "facts."

Here are some facts:

I have seen "Your opponent has been warned."

I have seen "Warning, SJCVChess. Aborting too many games will result in..."

I do not see both at the same time.

I have never seen both displayed at the same time.

I see "Your opponent has been warned" when my opponent times-out.

I see "Warning, SJCVChess. Aborting too many games will result in..." when I have timed-out.

As I previously stated (very clearly, in plain English, with fewer syntactic errors than your own questionable comprehension), why would it serve for administrators to reveal the specific parameters under which you are warned, such as to "game" the system? Let alone inform another player about an opponent having violated the rules?

And, again, the response to your original post speaks for itself. (But, again, argumentative posts speak to themselves, per my previous observations; especially in regards to administrators' failure to address your concerns. You are only correct that I am not one of the current or original developers. But I am aware of basic system parameters because I've learned to walk in others' shoes from time-to-time.)

Just sayin'.
@SJCVChess

Deduction depends on facts. But you have no clue what are facts here. How old are you?

Ask someone to play with you and to abort, then get here and write only one message, not an essay. ;)
"Even in ZEN mode, some players abort the game, thus this automatical message appears in chat after that."

1. Zen mode doesn't matter.

2. This message automatically appears in YOUR CHAT, IF YOU ARE NOT READY OR PREPARED TO PLAY THE GAME, AND YOU TIME-OUT, DO NOT MOVE, etc...

You can review the code for yourself. There is a single file in the source containing the relevant string:

github.com/ornicar/lila/blob/master/modules/playban/src/main/PlaybanFeedback.scala#L13

github.com/ornicar/lila/blob/e4578072a1001ea431530f8ccb50f7bcedc4c4b2/modules/playban/src/main/PlaybanFeedback.scala

This single file also covers "sandbagging," "sitting," "rage quitting," and "failure to start."
@SJCVChess

Read better and try to understand. And ask someone to play with you and abort, as suggested already. Are you a spammer or simply a troll? Or simply do not understand what was wrote in the first message?

Again, how old are you?
Reported this user/thread, and apologized to admins for any mistakes in my own attempt at being helpful (above). Don't want a flame-war or conflict. My apologies. Done here.
