In a weird sense this thread is testimony that anarchism may work.
Does anarchism mean that there is no governance? Absolutely no. There is a kind of self governance in anarchism.
What anarachism does mean is that there is no repressive state.
Translated to this thread a repressive state would mean moderators banning trolls, deleting invalid votes, possibly some automated mechanism to enforce compliance with rules. None of this is happening in this thread.
If there is no repressive state, then there is anarchy, you would say. If we can believe Thomas Hobbs, then without a repressive state there are "No arts; no letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death: and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short.".
And, yes. At first sight it seems that trolls make use of the possibility and do all kind of nasty things trying to destroy the thread.
But somehow the thread works despite trolling. Self governance works. I have the observation that pointing out the unruly behavior of persons indeed makes a difference and if they see that others correct their mistakes and copy on the list in the correct form, they sooner or later comply. It is enough to have the freedom of pointing out bad behavior and the power of publicity and the good intentions of most posters then do the rest. There was no need to restrict the wrong doers with and oppressive, centralized mechanism that comes from outside.
