Would a Digital Ocean or similar cloud platform server be powerful enough to contribute to the chess analysis pool?
Digital Ocean and most cloud IAAS providers use virtualization to ration CPU usage so they may not be the optimal option for chess analysis. You may benefit more from using dedicated CPUs. Why are you considering Digital Ocean? Is budget a constraint or are you just looking for hourly billing?
I was just brainstorming ways to support lichess and thought some affordable contribution to the analysis pool might be a way to go...
Incidentally, Digital Ocean has a partnership with GitLab where they provide limited free computing resources for running CI jobs for projects hosted at GitLab. But that seems like a marketing strategy to create visibility and attract developer community to other DO's commercial services.
