Interesting Caro-Kann Response - Interesting Game

caro can is a bad opener for black because he has many holes and plays a lot in defense. This is a variant which black is better.
bishop c 5 is not my favorite move because the c 5 diagonal is blocked by the pawn on d4 and is not realy doing anything i prefer b g4 pining the knight then most likely he would have played h3 takes bihsop on g4 takes knight queen takes then g6 preparing to push the f pawn
@vracarac you are speaking nonesense. No wonder you have a weak rating. Why did Karpov play the Caro-Kann - because it is strategically unsound, OK chief.

@MathematicChess I think 3.Nc3 is slightly dubious. You surrender the initiative. And black has lots of options.
"First both sides close the position and just trade down pieces, then White lets Black's king invade his position and finally loses an endgame he really shouldn't have"
3 Nc3 is questionable and 3...d4 also.
The idea of... Bc5 and then, even worse, Bb4 and Qa5 trading off pieces is not what the position calls for. If you play 6...c5 you have a Samisch King's indian structure with reversed colors, Black will probably castle Q side. White is not prepared for anything. The normal counterattack in the Samisch would call for g3 and f4, but that will take a hundred moves to unwind. Just 6...c5, 7...Nc6, 8...Be3 and you are much better. You can also play 8....g6 and 9...Be2 and you are ready of action on either wing.

With a big space advantage, do not trade minor pieces and Qs.
