King’s indian defense vs grunfeld

I’ve played both a couple of times and got good positions out of the opening, however since both of them have a lot of theory to study I thought It would be best if I focused on one. My question is: Which opening would be a better investment of my time and why?
@trivial64 The one that best suits you and you like the most, since it doesn't matter if you take longer to study one, what matters is that you like to play it and are used to it, you can also study both if you wish.
I won't play any of them - because of the mentioned theory. I recommend the QGD. I wrote an article about it.
Since both openings are heavyweight theory I would recommend you to quit chess ;)
I personally play the KID, its just a solid opening and its really good at punishing those who try to start an early attack at your kingside before they are castled. I think? the grunfeld has a lot more theory, and bonus the KID works well against the London System - blunts white's dark square bishop. I am just a 1600 newbie though. However, if you ever play the KID remember to break in the center with e5 or c5, or you might get a very cramped game.
🤔 hmm...if we try to consult the stockfish engine (🤫stock in fischer's mind)...the most recommended response...to white's 3rd move (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3...) based on evaluation weights...is
👉 +0.35 3...d5 (gruenfeld)
👉 +0.58 3...d6 (kings indian)
👉 +0.65 3...Bg7 (kings indian)
where small number or negative number...favors black...higher number or positive number favors white...during opening stage...it is regarded that white has the slight advantage...always positive number scores.
✌️😌
I think the starting point is what you intend to get out of chess.
I'm a lifelong KIDer...and the Grunfeld is always one of those openings that I have managed to mess up (every time I've tried it).

Anyway, I believe theory is a lot more acute for the Grunfeld (the KID gives you a bit more flexibility). But of course there's tons of theory for everything (that doesn't really narrow it down too much). A key point though is: are you gonna need all that theory to avoid numerous debacles (and 20-move losses)? Or can you manage to make it through to something playable without having to worry about it too much?
KID is definitely easier to play on general principles. Though an experienced white player will roll you over if you don't understand the dynamics needed to stay active
