Black Repertoire for Ruy Lopez d3 variation

I got crushed by White in this Ruy Lopez. Usually I play Marshall Attack, however this was not possible since white played 8. d3.

What are the possible plans/strategies for active play for Black in this 8. d3 line?

Even though 17. Bxh6 was an "unsound" sacrifice, certainly I don't want to be the one defending as Black.

Thanks for any tips.
Your position ending looks similar to my past games..hmm.
9.Bg4 seems like a useless move to me. As a white player i would have been very happy to see it. And tbh once you've done imho, it would have been better to exchange it for a knight instead of losing that many tempos to save it.

But i only play the Ruy Lopez as white and i'm a worse than you. So ^^
you can play 9...Na5 and if white plays Bc2 you can play c5 and try to play in the gueenside
d3 is one of the anti-Marshall moves. Here is an example of near perfect play by two former world champions

You did not lose in the opening.
Your mistake is 19...Bxf5?.
First you refrained from trading 13...Bxf3,
then you saved your bishop again with 15...Bh7,
and finally you trade it with 19...Bxf5?
21...Red8 is not the best defence. 21...Ng8 was necessary to protect square h6.
26...f6? is almost helpmate

You played too fast too.
At the very end of this 10+0 time control game you had 4 useless minutes left on your clock. So you played as if it were 6+0.

Good points by @Proustino @jimmy0613 @tpr .

Too much tempo was wasted by my light-squared bishop moves.

Spassky fianchettoing by playing ... g6 is a great idea. That keeps the knight permanently out of f5.

Thanks.
