Chat

I rarely start a conversation but reply if opponent starts, and it does happen every now and then.
I believe #9 is a big factor for many players, chatting on app is very uncomfortable.
I'm old enough to only use a phone to make phone calls.Using the modern mobile phone to connect you to everything around you is not a good thing.Young adults now wake up several times a night in anxiety to check their social media crap.
@bunyip I do not believe you, your example may concern 1 person in a million, not something very common.

Also I don't see why using a phone to play chess is a bad thing, you call/text and browse the web; that's what smartphones are for.
No...smartphones are meant to tie you to a false reality and pay someone to do that to you.
You can get banned for sneezing on here if someone takes offence, so people don't risk chatting generally.
Figuratively speaking it is, what is classed as offensive is highly subjective. It used to be much better on here but now some people are too easily offended. We don't want to police banter, it is good for the atmosphere of the tournaments.
I often chat during my games with one rule: If my opponent will use the chatroom too.
I would chat to a polite opponent. I even risk losing the game when it's worth the good time.
