Recent increase in engine use?!

there is a new engine that beat the former strongest engine. The new engine is alpha zero and it beat stockfish 64 bit in a 4 hour match and did not lose a single game more info on chess.com.

The increase is significant. I noticed it too.

I've noticed it as well. I'm about 1950 and constantly getting beat by 1600-1750 players who bungle the opening and then suddenly become experts in the middlegame.

I'm about done with this site for longer time controls.

For crying out loud.... AlphaZero is NOT a chess engine.

The only good approach to cheaters is not to ban them (as they will create new accounts), but instead to keep them playing, and only allow them to play other known cheaters. If they like playing each others computers, then let them.

Shouldn't be difficult to implement in the server, and would make them doubt if they had been blacklisted or not.

It is called "shadow banning" and has been implemented at lichess since it's founding.

in my opinion, the only way to eliminate cheaters is to have obligatory ( mandatory by law) bullet rating. And then Make sure that it is not possible to have a higher rapid or blitz rating than, for example, 250-300 points
