I believe its because Kings Gambit is one of many ways to secure the center of the board early in the game, although i don't Kings Gambit to secure the middle of the board many do.
To answer the OP question - Yes. I'm seeing it much more than I used to. I'm not afraid of it anymore but it can be a pain in the neck as the example above shows. I hate it, so please don't play it. :)

I snickered because in the middle of that game it looks like the French defence (not sure how to explain why I thought that was funny). But I almost always use the Sicilian against e4, so what would you play after

I play it with white using 3.Bc4 and i like it, often leads to funny positions
@killF7 1.e4 c5 2.f4 is not the King's Gambit; it's considered to be inferior due to the pawn sacrifice 2...d5:
People who play this seriously will usually play 2.Nc3 and 3.f4, after which you just have to do some study. As far as I understand black usually fianchettoes the bishop to g7.
