I was just wondering how long it took you to reach the different ranking "milestones" 1000/1500/1750/2000 etc. . Just curious what the amount of played time was for different people (Lichess and also real life experience).
Real life, learned the rules as a kid but only played a few games a year, then 15 years no games.
Started 6 months ago:
(Rapid rating)
- 1335 17.12.18 (lowest)
- 1500 21.12.18
- 1750 23.04.19
Current rating 1848
I do play in a club since 3 months and watch a lot of chess videos to improve.

I reached a rating of 2000 OTB after playing for eight years.
1750 after four and 1500 after three years.
1750 after four and 1500 after three years.
Started OTB at age 11 with a rating of 1500. Each year I gained about 100 points until I reached 2000.
I play online exclusively and only Blitz consistently.
-950 was my lowest when I first started in May last year :). I often go back to these games if I need a laugh.
-Peaked at 1250 a week after when I learned how to counter opening traps (like King-Rook fork shenanigans) and pay attention to Scholar's mate. Then I got lazy and went down again.
-5 weeks of playing -- broke 1300. This time I managed to keep above 1200 for the most part.
-Then I got lazy and went below 1100 again -- decided to stop playing blitz play longer games. Read Logical Chess by Chernev -- highly recommended!
-4 months of playing -- broke 1400. Then I got lazy and went down again, but I was steadily improving.
-9 months of playing -- broke 1500! I read the first 4 chapters of Yusupov 1A book and the basic Silman endgame chapters. Pretty fun stuff. Then I got lazy and had exams and went down to 1100 again.
It took 5 more months to get back to 1500 again -- I wish I had the time to read and play longer games.
-Lessons learned:
1. Don't be lazy.
2. Have a lot of time to study.
3. Play longer games.

It took about nine months on Lichess to go from 1230 to 1802 Classical.
Like four years? I never put serious work into studying though.
I've started playing when I was 12 and by the age of 13 reached 1700 elo.
My rating was 1900 when I was 14, 2100 when I was 15.
At that point I enrolled in his school so my rating wasn't really improving, it was going very slowly.
I finally reached 2200 when I was 17. I guess that milestone motivated me to break 2300 by the age of 18.
Tbh I wasn't really motivated to push for more after that, after few initial gains(2335 peak rtg) my rating took few hits.
Nowadays I'm a steady 2250-2300 , although I don't play a lot due to the college obligations which got in the way.
