How to lose on time without getting a warning?

I lost one game on time, and received a warning:

"Warning, variants. Letting time run out instead of resigning will result in a temporary ban."

Slightly amusing -- I just lost on time in a time-trouble. What is nowadays here the correct way of losing on time?
In a time-trouble there's sometimes not even time to watch at the clock, and it is very difficult then even know when to resign. Losing on time is or at least has been a perfectly normal way of losing a game, especially a blitz or fast time-control game. It seems that it is becoming not normal, how strange.

Some players/cheaters just stop moving during a game when they have minutes or more on their clock and let the clock run out, but that's a different thing.

However it is only one game... But ok, you also only received a warning so you should be fine if you don't repeatedly do that.
That's the game I was talking about. I didn't notice where move times are, now I see it. 35 seconds was time-trouble for me in this game. I'm not an engine, thats enough time to play a couple of games for them. Crazyhouse chess is a much more complex game than standard chess, after all. And, even though it does not apply here, crazyhouse chess in lichess shows -- quite incorrectly -- promoted pawns with the same symbol as unpromoted pieces, which of course makes it quite difficult to evaluate a position for a human when you have to remember which piece is promoted and which not. An engine has no trouble.
