You all got it wrong; the earth is actually shaped like a donut

Ok, but "the majority" and "the majority of educated" is unfortunately a huge difference when it's about that time (AFAIK at least)

But yeah, if this "idea" hasn't had a chance to establish itself in that era, one may think that it HAD to vanish forever after galileo/newton.

But w/e, some people seem to be resistant.

That's as good of an answer that has ever been offered. And that's also the problem... Flat earth is ridiculous only an idiot would believe that. Obviously it is the shape of a donut. I flew my plane to the north pole and it was open, so I flew inside of it. And there were ufo's surrounding me, telling me to leave. I reported this to the president, but he said never speak of this again.

I did not deny the existence of gravity, just that its conventional interpretation and understanding is flawed and incomplete. The reference frame is misaligned in most interpretations, which do not account for the Earth being flat.

I am yet to be provided with a reason to give a shit either way.

@eqjugg I think most people at that time just did not think about those things. (Everything that was outside of his day to day was a matter of God, Religion or witchcraft).
Currently, I think we are in a similar situation but with Science in the role of God and the School in the place of the Church and that most people do not think about anything that makes them use their brains.

If the earth is flat, we should be able to see the moon and the sun at the same time.

My wild guess would be that nowadays
(i) there is a LOT of information and specialized research all over the place forcing people to make the cut somewhere
ii) some people making the cut preeetty early (EDIT: almost all of us myself included are clueless in the majority of fields, which is bad enough. But I meant people who genuinely refuse any contact to science).

iii) people in ii) are generally prone to wild conspiracy theories. Some of them "convert" fueled by all kinds of events (observing pseudoresearch in other disciplines, seeing the "no facts" trend/era, some private events.....

If the earth is flat, what is the earth on? an endless pit????

A black hole?

Light?

thoughts?

hell?

stress?
