@bunyip In order to solve it you need to make the assumption that it's a variant, in which you are allowed to start with an arrangement of pieces on the board that is unreachable from the standard starting position of standard chess, but that all other rules that apply to standard chess apply to this variant. Also in this variant there are still some rules for starting positions, for instance if a player is in check it must be his/her turn to move.
32 bishops for white (on all white squears), and white king on either e4 and black king on c5 and black bishop on e3; white king on d4, black king on f4 and black bishop on d6. or Reversed if whites bishops are on white squears
@jonesmh I am the OP of this thread, so I'm not sure where you get the idea that I was complaining about my own puzzle, unless you meant that for someone else, or misinterpreted something I said.
If you guys liked this riddle, then you should also join the team I created for a variant involving starting positions, in which positions similar to the one I described are reachable.
The fact that your puzzle is not based on chess rules for the first part of it ,but is for the second part of it makes it not a chess puzzle at all,but a tessellation puzzle on a field of 64 squares.@acgusta2
