An Unpopular Opinion

I have found a quite large number of opponents recently who fit in a very specific box. They always play d4 as white, they play a Queen's Gambit if it is any way possible. If they face Nf6 e6 they fianchetto their bishop...As black they always play semi slavs, or if an opponent plays e4 they play the French, against the English they play the Agincourt Defense etc. What occurred to me, is that people like that listen to the engine no matter what. If they see no mate, they will ignore your attack. If they think they have a winning position but the engine says draw, they'll draw it in a timely manor. It is okay to like more boring openings like the French, but I think that these player rely solely on the engine to even play chess, much less excel.
My only comment would be that I usually dont find the french to be boring. I dont play it as black, but as white I often find myself in an asymetrical position with white having a good king-side attack, but weakness on the queenside and sometimes down a pawn.
I understand your point of view. I guess that I find the French boring to play against is that I play lines that leave no choice. But with that, a large amount of French games due pan out to an advance French, so I'm not the only one.
Well the Mr Average, I'd assume you learned how to play exclusively from an engine. I assume, you may just like those openings better, yet they fit an un ignorable theme
I’m self taught so I only use the computer for openings. Didn’t know there was a correlation. Very cool
#1 and 2 Try playing the Reti-Spielmann Attack against the French 1. e4 e5 2.g2 Its an anti French opening and you may really enjoy the play. Currently I am playing the line and I really like it. Note...you will find a noticeable response time when you play it. :]
