Of basic fair-play.

Hi,

So, Lichess offers a "takeback" option. It's quite useful when e misclick occurs or when you want to allow your opponent to take back a move for any reason.

People have different views about accepting takebacks or not, some harsher than others. I'm fine with that discrepancy. I rarely use the feature and, if someone declines a takeback when I do, I'm not peeved.

What does peeve me, and seems to me like an egregious lack of fair play are people who downright ignore the request in order to cost the opponent time while s/he waits for a decision that will never come. Why do people feel the need to do that for a few rating points? Is there anything to do in those cases?

The same can happen with draw offers as well, to a lesser extent.
Excuse me but if you request a take back it means it's your opponent's turn, doesn't it?? And if your opponent makes a move that means your request is rejected!

With draw offer if you sit there and offer draw while your clock is ticking down you only have yourself to blame because no response means no! so play on!
aren't you getting tired of this discussion, Sargon?
№ 2,

Alas, no. I agree that’s how it _should_ work; but while it’s that way for draws, it’s different for takebacks, for some (unclear) reason. If your opponent moves, the request still stands; and if he only then notices and accepts it, guess what?
It takes back _his_ move. Not yours.
(Even though you’re the one who requested the TB, and the state of the board was different when you did so.)
Do you think that’s weird & wrong? Well! I sure do. And I’ve complained about it before — to no avail.

Cf. lichess.org/forum/lichess-feedback/takeback-doesnt-work-correctly
Those of us who play zen mode, or who have takeback disabled, never see any request for takeback. Which is perfect for me because I would not grant one anyway.
№ 8,

Yeah, yeah. I don’t ask for them, either, though I grant them when it was an obvious missclick (say Ra7 instead of Rxa8), or the other player cares enough to explain his reason in the chatbox. But you do realize bragging about that here is like telling a room full of cancer patients, “Well! _I_ never had cancer”? What sort of reaction were you hoping for? Indignation? Pity? Perhaps a combination of the two?
How about a mixture of indifference & contempt? Because that’s how I feel about what you said, and I’ll wager it’s closer to what everyone else here is likely to feel.
The next time you missclick, I suppose you will simply resign. Or perhaps you’re the sort of fellow who rage quits. Hmm. . . . If there’s one thing I understand even less well than the way takebacks currently work on this site (I say “currently” as I remain optimistic they will someday fix this; and actually I understand it quite well, I just disapprove of it), it’s why people rage quit without even asking for a takeback first. What point are they trying to make? They’re not wasting my time, since I can just play another game while their clock runs out. 🤷‍
Takebacks don’t bother me. Rage quits don’t bother me. What bothers me is poorly conceived functionality (such as that currently associated with the feature in question). As for people who brag about how they never use a given feature, anyway, in a thread where everyone else has assembled to discuss ways of improving it . . . you are better off not knowing how that sort of needlessly rude behavior makes me feel. 😐
I expect you’ll want to say, “You mistake me for someone who gives a toss how you feel.” To which I can only say: but that’s exactly what I’m telling _you_ right now, about what you just said, on behalf of everyone else here. We don’t care what you do, and how dare you interrupt us to talk about yourself?
If this issue is at all dear to me, it’s only because it’s the first flaw I ever observed in this particular chess platform — which I otherwise love, enough to donate in these troubled times. (You are welcome. FYI, I have also contributed two boards and one piece set, all of which I consider more significant than the money.) And so long as this fly in the ointment remains, and other people have the good sense to complain about it too, I will be their champion. And I will intellectually disembowel (there’s a concept for you) anyone who dares profane this sacred discussion by making snide remarks such as yours, or by arguing the contrary position (i.e., that the status quo is actually good for some reason).
TL;DR (too late?): A broken feature is broken, period. Whether you happen to use that particular feature is completely irrelevant. You don’t care, eh? Well, guess what? We care even less about what you have to say. Go talk to your bedroom wall; it’s more interested than we are.
  Have a nice day. 🙂
I just leave the option disabled. In one game an opponent made an obvious mouse slip and I went into the game options during the game and re-enabled it for them. Then later in the game they made a stupid move and asked for another takeback smh.
