Why would you care if someone added time to your clock? That's seriously bizarre to me to be upset about.

Since when should an opponent have the ability to influence my clock without permission?

Issue is, it is a feature that invites abuse. Several examples: As a distraction, or at the start of games I've had players add time, not just one click for 15 seconds, but rapid, multiple clicks adding minutes.

Create the ability to disable the feature in "settings". Problem resolved.

I didn't know about the extra time stuff.
Next time someone berserks me, I may add him one hour or two.
Just because I can.

A perfect example. Someone "berserks" , add the time back because you can. Someone wants to beat you with half the time might feel belittled so they click away on +time. Could this even be considered poor sportsmanship? I'm sure there would be much argument to the contrary when the button is so readily available.

I have not played in berserk tournaments, but I'm assuming the feature exists from kifaru's post.

Another point. By +time to an opponent, it is in effect adding more time to think for the player who added the time , besides any distraction it creates.
Once again, its completely bizarre to me that anyone would be upset about having time added to their clock. If that's a "distraction" to you then you need to work on your ability to focus and concentrate.
What's great is when someone snarkily gives you extra time thinking you're lost and have no way out, and then you use the extra time to find the winning defensive move. I once had some guy on here get what he thought was a decisive attack on me. my instincts told me it was defendable, so I'm thinking, calculating, my time gets low, he types "I hope you're enjoying our little rape session immensely" into the chatbox and adds a bunch of extra time to my clock which I ended up winning the game with.

I said it could be a distraction, which clearly it can be. Also giving opponent +time also gives more time to think for the 1st player. Clearly adding time to start a game is abuse.
This is not the main point, however, which is the opponent has a certain control over my clock that I never gave permission for. This feature is not available at any other chess site in the form it's presented here. Can you imagine in an OTB game the opponent picks up the clock to add time?
I'm hoping that Staff is looking at adding a setting option to disable the feature.
Another perspective to the debate is "ownership".
I begin a chess game with x amount of time. It is "my time" to use as I feel fit.
The +time feature puts my opponent in "control" of my time. I may never know much time remains, my opponent has the ability to "click away" on the button, continuously adding time.

Other sites have an option to request added time. To avoid abuse, the option can be disabled. Certainly, having the feature can be beneficial in several cases, but only for players who both agree. Allowing
one player to have the ability to control the opponents clock without their consent is insanity ! (Well almost)
Getting more time on your clock is not abuse, don't abuse the word here. You don't have to use the extra time given either. If someone in an OTB gave me extra time I'd whisper thanks if anything. Additionally, this is online chess, the only reason to play it here is to learn and enjoy the game. If someone adding time to your clock spoils it for you, then it really begs the question why. Its not like they can take time away from you.

Its like arguing that a kid giving you additional M&M's from a bowl would be abuse. I don't get the hang up whatsoever, its just bizarre to me.

Other sites provide a button, allowing a player to request +time. Once it is agreed then time is added.
The "abuse" comes in when a player sends repeated requests, which inter-ups the game with a pop-up, and a player must continuously respond with "request denied". The practice is very abusive, especially in time trouble. Both parties must agree, were as here it is at the sole discretion of the opponent.
This is why in settings, the option to disable the feature is made available at those sites.

The "hang up" is NOT about the time (although by +time it provides both players more time to think.)
The question is a matter of principle. My opponent should not have the ability to be in control of my time without my consent to +time. How the added time is perceived is of no matter.

Also, if at the start of a 10 minute game, your opponent starts clicking away and soon you have 20 minutes on your clock, and you don't think this is intentional abuse, poor sportsmanship, that you would just say TY, I wouldn't believe it for a second.
