obamagate

@Mopman you don't recall the whole Gallo and Montagnier controversy and break down of sharing information until US & France settled patent lawsuits? But more recently, researchers at Harvard School of Public Health attributed 330K deaths to the the US withholding research data and effective therapeutics from African countries. On the positive side, GW Bush's PEPFAR program has saved a lot of lives (I think both Obama and Trump deserve kudos for continuing).
The Gallo and Montagnier situation was a patent argument between two separate companies independently researching viruses that turned out to be the same one . They then agreed to share the patent.

I could not find the Harvard Study - please link it .

And will you agree that China withholding data on the Coronavirus was not a good thing ?

@Mopman pubmed.gov has about 500 research articles specifically related to impact of US policy failures on HIV/AIDS. It is a poor history until you get too GWB. I know the Harvard researcher and looking at his slides he was specifically discussing a drug company withholding treatments, I have not seen the IRB.

Like I said, PEPFAR was a concerted effort to for the US to be a leader in that area. Prior to Bush there was withholding and in some cases bans on continued research in some areas.

The Chinese government does not admit shortcomings and public health varies greatly between providences (same as US States). If it had occurred in Guangdong and WHO said they were withholding, I would think they may have withheld data. Since it occurred in Wuhan, I would say they were incapable of even collecting the data to begin with. It explains the three week gap in data reporting.

"The Chinese government does not admit shortcomings"

That is a very sad and accurate statement - Thank you.
Yes it happened late JAn. / early Feb. when the Virus was spreading that is what we are talking about ?

Sorry you are talking about building a hospital , yes that a very good thing but not related to our current topic about withholding data.
Taxirip thank you for the article it shows that there are good people and organizations in China working to improve things.
#97 It most certainly is related to the discussion as to whether or not China tried to cover it up.They built two hospitals in plain sight of the world specifically to treat covid victims, and you are trying to excuse trump's deadly inaction by falsely claiming China did not act openly.Just admit trump stuffed up and move on.You are attempting to defend the indefensible.
Obladie , did you follow the link given by Taxirip ? - its from this source:

Ruipeng Lei, a Hastings Center Fellow, is Professor and Executive Director Center for Bioethics Huazhong University of Science & Technology. Renzong Qiu, a Hastings Center Fellow, is Professor and Director, Institute of Bioethics, Center for Ethics & Moral Studies, Renmin University of China.

It tells about the issues with the officials trying to cover up the virus.

Please note this comes from a Chinese Research Institute from the Renmin University of China.
