Why is it that Chess.com charges money for the basically the same features as Lichess?

Chess.com released a new Beta version for their play live chess tab. When you click on tournaments, however, it is like there literally copy-pasted the code from lichess. Just look at it: bit.ly/3eJrqoJ They have to have, at the very least, their own ideas for UI if they are going to charge $100/year for all of their features.

You guys tell me what you think, this is just my opinion.

The beauty of lichess is that it is open-source, to make chess more accessible. I do not know the exact licensing of the software but if chess.com wanted to use some part of code or feature or look, i think it would be just fine, and this open source project would have achieved its goal of improving the world of chess. It is up to you to pay for chess.com features if you think it is worth it. I personnaly have a subscription only for the puzzle rush :).

chess.com you dont pay for playing but for premium content. If you dont like it dont pay. Creating that amoutn videos ans lessons is costly and there seems to enough of people finding that usefull

Chess.com is a great place for learning chess, besides they're only making the site better for chess players, why is everyone criticizing chess.com/?

because you have to pay money for the same premium features lichess has. i love lichess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lichess doesn't have lessons.
