Question about lag

This has happened a few times to me today. I'll give one example.



While waiting for opponent to make last move, I know I had around 10 seconds on my clock. I'm sitting there waiting, and the move comes and it times me out immediately. I check the page about lag ( lichess.org/lag ), and it says server latency is 1ms and ping time from me to lichess is only 115 ms. I checked the same link today after a game when this happened, and also everything looked fine. Any idea what is happening? Maybe I don't understand lag.

A possibility is that your connection is unstable, you were the one who timed out while watching the opponents clock run down. Then when your server and lichess reconnected you to the game, your ping was again low, but in the meantime it was your connection that timed out, not the opponents. If you become disconnected, you should see a "reconnecting" message on top that is flashing in red.

Yeah. I'm thinking that is probably it. The only reason I doubt it is because both times after it happened, I spent a long time staring at that lag page and everything looked good for the entire time I looked at it. And.... I've never really had problems before. Oh well!

its a serverlag mainly

you dont need a good connection for chess! its obvious but sometimes like recently the lichess servers sometimes doing weird stuff like reconnecting for 4-5 sec it can be fustrating

and even the other player wil think you left the game because your status will change from the green circle to a grey one so it seems u left and he can claim a win whatever. but the problem is i dont think is with your net

We very rarely see players with a good connection ever be disconnected. The reliability and speed of the lichess servers is why players are choosing to play here.

in fact i play chess in school and there is like 1mb download speed internet connection witch is very low

but the disconnect doesnt depend on download speed when disconnection is happened the download speed is 0 but chess is taking up like 0.3 0.5 mb of net if you check it with netmeter.

try to open 100 lichess tabs see if even one will disconnect

anyways who asked the question i actually know a solution to figure it out

download netmeter from the official site

install and see if you are lost the connection when you are being disconnected from lichess for 1-2 sec

and see if its your net or lichess
