I always thought it was BOTH players making the same exact move 3 times. But if the following happens, it's also a draw?
Say he makes move to block my first check. Now I check with my Q to a different square, he makes a move, I then check with a different move, and he moves back to his original blocking square. (2nd time) I make my original checking move, he blocks. I make check, then he blocks for the 3rd time with his same move. Even though I was making different moves, not the same 3, HIM making the same 3rd move, gives a draw?
So only one player making the same move 3 times, gives a draw?
The rule is a bit vague to me in its wording: "Threefold repetition – if an identical position has occurred at least three times during the course of the game with the same player to move each time, and is the current position on the board or will occur after the player on turn makes his move, the player on move may claim a draw."
