I play only white

I can't think of any justification for Lichess allowing players to choose their color in rated games. It is complete nonsense.

The only thing I can offer as a "defense" of it is this: It's another in a virtually endless list of reasons to not care about your online rating attached to a pseudonym. But there are players here who use their real identities and have their own, real reputations at stake; it's easy enough to avoid the losers who only play white, but their presence throws off the integrity and reliability of the entire rating system.

I also don't understand why you can only choose your color in rated games in *some* variants. You can choose your color in crazy house, KOTH, and 960, but not the others. Why? If it's because it gives an unfair advantage there, then does that imply that it gives an acceptable advantage in the other variants?

Since chess is the only game, that I know, invented by man where "luck" does not count, the advantage, slight as it might be, of starting the game should be balanced by not allowing you to play the next game with the same color you chose unless the algorithm chooses to do so when pairing two players that have chosen black in their game before the present one.

I can´ t help feeling that the "fairness" of this, the best game in the world is somehow compromised.

There are players that play white only, will not take a challenge unless they go out and you challenge them with the color they have chosen.

Statistically, you do have an edge, that means that your rating, statistically speaking will be better. In the fairest game of them all this is not fair...

#17...Not sure what you are getting at. My post was saying that some players fear playing black...as they may have trouble winning with black. So...they only play white. In my view ...that's a bad problem and should be over come...by playing black. One could maybe get past it. :] Note...#16 explains it... Its rare when a post is not messed up with negative comments.
