Flat Earth

@robotrock

you weren't responding to me, but:

a) IMO you don't even have to disprove anything as long as the flat-earthers don't form a set of principles leading to results which can be falsified via theory/experiment.

b) if a theory dismisses valid experimental results (observations / photos from the space, curvature, ..) for absolutely no reason ("things are fake"), we're getting into the direction of "convince you that things are wrong" and not "theory A is right/wrong".

c) there are also plenty of theoretical reasons (gravity, astronomy measurements..) but I can get why people aren't investing time to discover any single flaw because the claim is just that much off (+ it's easy to google up if needed)

However I like the general idea of trying to remember / get a better understanding of certain principles.

Since this flat earth is a bit boring, I thought of another question. Maybe we can do a thread of those at some point.

Q: The rest mass of a photon is believed to be 0. Why is it the case? What are the relevant objects you would compare the photon to?
The Round Earth can explain all phenomena simply and elegantly (day and night, the seasons, the ships that seem to go down when they recede, the round shadows in the lunar eclipses, the Eratosthenes experiment, the variations in gravity, the Coriolis force that turns the storms, the round horizon that is seen when we climb enough, the different constellations that can be seen in the hemispheres ...)
Flat Earth can try to give very complicated explanations to each of them, but the whole is so contrived that it can only be defended by trolls.
There is only one fact in favor of the Flat Earth: our "common sense". When we are children (or think like them) we only see the flat ground, then everything must be flat.

I do not wish to fire the imp, I wish to exterminate him.
Furthermore, I'm digging ur shit right there. Flat as a pancake. Yes sir.
The Earth is flat because Kyrie Irving (and I think Shaquille O'Neal) said it. The Earth could be an illusion because that's what Lonnie Walker IV says. Basketball personalities have interesting thoughts.
@Titus369 Well...but then again you have people like DRob, Dirk, TD (only counting the superstars) as a contrast.

Looking at the soccer players I'm somehow very tempted to describe then as a giant wave of 2.0-Kyries (maybe took a physics class more than Kyrie + around 5 years of media training, but only clever enough not to completely embarass themselves)

Early careers demand sacrifices I guess..
Here's why you're all wrong. The Earth is flat. There's simply no debate to be had. Basically, the earth is a flat disc protected by an invisible barrier called “the firmament,” a dome-like feature that also happens to be referenced in the Old Testament so you know it’s real.
The bible says:
[Genesis 35:18]
And it came to pass as her soul was in departing (for she died), that she called his name Benoni [that is, The son of my sorrow], but his father called him Benjamin [that is, The son of the right hand].
This should be enough proof.
